Times-News: Burley to Create its Own Police Department

Posted By on Fri, Aug 9, 2013 at 12:00 PM

After negotiations broke down with Cassia County over providing public safety, officials with the city of Burley have decided instead to form their own police department.

This morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that a $50,000 difference in opinion over how much Cassia County should be paid led to the breakdown in negotiations. Cassia County commissioners met in special session on Wednesday, Aug. 7 to terminate the contract with Burley, effective Monday, Sept. 30.

Meanwhile the Burley City Council will meet Monday, Aug. 12 to begin the process of establishing the position of a Burley police chief.
