Fire Breaks Out At Zoo Boise Lion Exhibit

Posted By on Fri, Aug 16, 2013 at 1:08 PM

Firefighters are having a tough go of it through much of Idaho today, but the most unusual blaze broke out before noon at Zoo Boise.

The Boise Fire Department responded to an alarm from Zoo Boise at 11:15 a.m. That's when they found a small fan had shorted and ignited a fire in a concrete-enclosed area where lions from Zoo Boise's African Lion exhbit are kept overnight. A small amount of smoke had seeped into the African Lion exhibit visitor's area, which was evacuated while firefighters went to work..

The lion exhibit was closed for about an hour and firefighters used a portable extinguisher to knock the fire out.

The lion exhibit reopened at approximately 12:15 p.m.
