Hannah Anderson, the California teen who was the subject of a multi-state manhunt which ended with her abductor's death in Idaho's backcountry, granted an exclusive interview this morning to NBC's Today Show.

“In the beginning, I was a victim. But now knowing everyone out there’s helping me, I consider myself a survivor instead.”

Anderson called her abductor, James DiMaggio, "Uncle Jim" in the interview and discussed the 13 phone calls between herself and DiMaggio the day she was kidnapped from her San Diego County, Calif., home. The abduction occurred right after DiMaggio had killed Anderson's mother and younger brother.

"The phone calls weren't phone calls, they were texts. Because he was picking me up from cheer camp and he didn't know the address or ... like where I was, so I had to tell him the address and tell him that I was going to be in the gym and not in front of the school, just so he knew where to come get me."

Additionally, Anderson said she wanted to become a firefighter some day, serving San Diego.

A memorial service is set for this Saturday, Aug. 24, for Anderson's mother and brother.
