Firefighters Continue Battling Little Queens Blaze as Lightning Watch Kicks In

Posted By on Tue, Aug 27, 2013 at 10:32 AM

Fire managers are keeping a close eye on radar today as a Red Flag Warning goes into effect at noon and is expected to remain in effect until late this evening. A major weather-maker is expected to push in gusty winds and lightning into the region, with a good chance of showers or thunderstorms.

Four new fires were discovered in the Boise National Forest Aug. 26—three were lightning caused, a fourth, south of Idaho City, was determined to be human-caused.

Meanwhile, the Little Queens Fire has now burned 23,273 acres north of the town of Atlanta and is 15 percent contained. Crews say they're making good progress in the southwest corner of the fire, tying in a line from Eagle Creek to the 2003 Hot Creek burn.
