Precipitation Triggers Mudslides, Closures

Posted By on Mon, Sep 16, 2013 at 9:41 AM

Officials reopened Idaho Highway 55 between Spring Creek Way and Old Horseshoe Bend Hill Road Sunday after mudslides forced detours, using Highway 52.

Idaho Transportation Department officials now have their efforts focused on Elmore County where the weekend's heavy rains have triggered landslides and rockslides in the areas that were ravaged by the Pony and Elk Complex fires. One landslide blocked part of Anderson Ranch Dam Road.

The after-effects of the massive wildfires are expected to cause greater concern as precipitation triggers more mudslides across the region.

The coming week is expected to be mostly dry but more rain is expected by next weekend.

As summer becomes fall, the region should see overnight lows dip to the 40s and highs hover in the 70s.
