AP: INL Workers Sue Feds for Accident Video

Posted By on Thu, Sep 19, 2013 at 9:47 AM

Two workers, who say they were exposed to radiation at the Idaho National Lab while packaging plutonium reactor fuel plates in 2011, are suing the U.S. government because they say feds aren't sharing with them the whole truth about the accident.

The Associated Press reports that Brian Simmons and Ralph Stanton filed a public records request of the the U.S. Department of Energy earlier this year looking for documentation, including a security video, of the event. But feds told the men that the video was instead the property of a private contractor. The men said not only were their requests for information ignored but "an unsafe culture existed at INL before they and 16 other workers were exposed to the plutonium."

The AP's Rebecca Boone reports the two men want a federal judge to force the DOE to turn over the all video related to the Nov. 8, 2011, plutonium release.
