IDOL Will Select Next Snake River Canyon Daredevil Sept. 27

It has been nearly forty years since Evel Knievel flew over the Snake River Canyon in front of a global television audience. And now five new hopefuls want to follow in his smoke trail.

This morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that a string of national daredevils are pushing for approval from the Idaho Department of Lands to fly from the south side of the canyon over to the north side. But the IDOL will only award one daredevil the permission on Friday, Sept. 27.

The winning applicant must sign a two-year lease for the north side landing site, and paying $25,000 in annual rent, plus 2 percent of the main revenue source (presumably broadcast rights) and 5 percent of any other revenue streams, all going to the IDOL.

Meanwhile, officials with the City of Twin Falls say they'll also require a permit for the daredevil.

Among this year's applicants is a production company which includes a man whose father designed Knievel's 1974 rocket.
