When a fast moving but powerful storm blew through the Magic Valley over the weekend, a power outage to four buildings on the campus of the College of Southern Idaho was more than an inconvenience; it may also have damaged some of CSI's financial data,

This morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that the power outage affected databases and computer systems campus-wide and may have damaged payroll and various online and academic systems.

"When the power went out it apparently fried some crucial equipment in regards to data services, phones and the network," Doug Maughan, CSI public relations director told the Times-News. "Some of that has been slowly coming back up. Email for students is still down. Email for faculty and staff is back up."

Maughan added that CSI payroll, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 25, may be delayed.

CSU crews have been working to recover the campus phone system, student email and online homework submission program. Backup systems were still be analyzed.

"We dodged the bullet having this happen on a Sunday night instead of a Monday night," Maughan told the Times-News.
