Ketchum Council Fuels Marketing Alliance to Target LA, San Francisco, Seattle

While voters in Hailey and Ketchum will be asked Tuesday, Nov. 5, whether they support an increase in local-option tax rates by 1 percent to subsidize more commercial airlines to serve the Wood River Valley, the Ketchum City Council isn't waiting until then and has voted to commit $450,000 from Fiscal Year 2014 LOT funds to spur more air service.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports that the Ketchum Council agreed to pay the Sun Valley Marketing Alliance in order to target air service from select West Coast cities Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.

"When you can get here from Seattle in 90 minutes and ski the same day, that's a great selling point," said SVMA President Arlene Schieven. "We're pushing that message in San Francisco as well, because the trip from there is nothing compared to Tahoe."

Schieven told the Ketchum City Council that the marketing alliance had great success with social-media campaigns: a 31 percent increase in Facebook "likes" and a 36 percent increase in Twitter followers.
