American Falls Election Loser Could Still Be a Winner

Posted By on Wed, Oct 30, 2013 at 9:31 AM

When voters in the Eastern Idaho community of American Falls go to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 5, they'll be selecting three City Council members from a field of five candidates. Incumbent council members Dan Hammond and Maria Rangel are being challenged by Gilbert Hofmeister, Susan Love and Kurtis Workman.

But it turns out that there could be some good fortune for the candidate who comes in fourth place as well.

This morning's Idaho State Journal reports that there's a new wrinkle in the runoff. While the top-three candidates are expected to secure a seat on the city council, yet another council member, Norman Wright, has announced that that he has been appointed to the Power County District No. 2 Commission seat, vacating his seat on the city council.

American Falls Mayor Marc Beitia says he expects to name the candidate who comes in fourth place to succeed Wright.
