Eastern Idaho Mayoral Candidate Undergoes Brain Surgery

Posted By on Sun, Nov 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Running an election campaign is hard enough.

Craig Brainard, who is running for Mayor of the Eastern Idaho city of Chubbuck this Tuesday, November 5, has much more on his mind - quite literally. He's recuperating from brain surgery, which was completed November 1.

This morning's Idaho State Journal reports that the 32-year-old Brainard initially thought that he needed to adjust the prescription of his glasses, but an eye exam revealed spotted abnormalities behind his eye. Further testing revealed a tumor on his cerebral cortex.

Brainard was admitted to Bingham Memorial Hospital October 31 and underwent a seven-hour surgery November 1.

Brainard's wife said her husband was sitting up in bed November 2 and giving a thumbs up to friends and family.

Brainard is hoping to get out of the hospital for a short while on Tuesday, November 5 so he can vote. He's making his first run for public office this year.
