It's official... or at least it will be official on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. That's the date of the grand opening of the Eighth and Main Tower, Idaho's highest profile (literally and figuratively) construction project.

In a simple, one-page application submitted to city of Boise officials, the Gardner Company says it is targeting Feb. 15, 2014 for its grand opening.

"ESI [construction] is working hard to get its work done,"Geoff Wardle, vice president of development and general counsel for the Gardner Company told Boise Weekly in October. "And we're getting more excited about opening the building the first quarter of next year."

The $76 million building will be home to Zions Bank's new Idaho headquarters, the law firm of Holland & Hart, four restaurants and Zenergy Health Club.

But most of the conversation swirling around the Eighth and Main building is zeroing in on its rooftop, where a 57-foot spire sits. After some people balked at its design, Gardner has announced that it will make some adjustments: a portion of the lower part of the spire will be surrounded by glass fins and the very top will be illuminated by blue lights, instead of the previously-designed white lights. Because the changes are cosmetic, they won't need a formal sign-off from the city of Boise's Design Review Committee.

Meanwhile, Gardner officials tell city officials that the building's February grand opening could attract 10,0000-15,000 attendees.
