Otter Names New Labor Dept. Chief

With Roger Madsen's retirement from the Idaho Labor Department, an agency he's helmed since his appointment by then-Gov. Phil Batt in 1995, the office of Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter announced on Nov. 15 that he'll be replaced by Twin Falls businessman Ken Edmunds, effective Nov. 25.

Edmunds, who also serves on the State Board of Education and the Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Council, will have to be confirmed by the Idaho Senate when it reconvenes in January, and will step down from his duties on the Ed board and IGEM.

Otter will appoint a successor to fill Edmund's second five-year term on the Board of Education, which runs until March 2018.

Edmunds is a graduate of Brigham Young University, with a Master's in accounting. He previously worked as a senior executive and consultant with Ameristar Casinos, and was a CPA and manager for accounting firm Price Waterhouse. In Twin Falls, he worked as controller for a development and construction company.

According to a release from the governor's office, Department of Labor Deputy Director Jay Engstrom will serve as acting director until Edmunds assumes the job.
