Cherie Buckner-Webb Recovering From Mild Stroke

Boise Democratic Sen. Cherie Buckner-Webb is recovering at home after suffering from what she called a mild stroke.

Buckner-Webb said she was speaking with her son Phillip and granddaughter, using a FaceTime application on her smartphone, when her son noticed that Buckner-Webb's face "looked unusual and her speech was slurred." Buckner-Webb is attributing what she calls a quick recovery to getting immediate treatment after her son took note of her signs of a stroke.

"I will be standing tall as the Legislative sessions begins," said Buckner-Webb. The 2014 Legislature convenes Monday, Jan. 6.

Buckner-Webb isn't the only Idaho lawmaker convalescing this Thanksgiving. Nov. 23, Citydesk reported that Coeur d'Alene Republican Sen. Bob Nonini had been hospitalized for complications related to the flu.

"He's on the mend now, and still plans to be down in Boise this session," said Nonini family friend Lorna Finman.

Buckner-Webb and Nonini have two more things in common—service on the Senate Education and Transportation committees.
