One Hour: 10 Big Ideas for a Greener Boise

Any similarities between the Thursday, Dec. 5, 10 Big Ideas to Make Boise Greener and the massively successful Ignite Boise series isn't a coincidence. It's quite deliberate.

"We'll have 10 Ignite-style events; each one will be five minutes long," said John Reuter, Conservation Voter for Idaho Executive Director and organizer-in-chief of 10 Big Ideas. "We'll have you in and out of there in an hour."

Reuter told Boise Weekly that he even reached out to one of Ignite Boise's founding members, Wyatt Werner, to serve as consultant for the event. Simply put, 10 Big Ideas is a fast-paced series of 10 speakers who will each pitch a plan to promote a more-sustainable Boise.

"We've never put all of these ideas in the same place at the same time and in a format that is short and to-the-point," said Reuter. "I really think people are going to love all of them, but one of the great things about this is that if you don't care for one of them, guess what? It's over in five minutes. We're hoping that people will commit $5 and an hour of their time to hear 10 big ideas and to leave inspired."

The Dec. 5 event, which will be held at The Egyptian Theatre from 6-7 p.m. is part of First Thursday.

"That means attendees can be out the door by 7 p.m. and hit a few more events. We really think the timing is ideal," said Reuter.

And 10 Big Ideas has lined up 10 heavy hitters to share their vision for a greener Boise including the Treasure Valley Family YMCA, Idaho Rivers United, the Idaho Conservation League and the Sierra Club.

"You'll hear somebody talk about the future of Boise's downtown; you'll get some exciting details on the new Boise Bike Share project; and you'll hear about what the greenest building in Boise's history would look like," said Reuter. "I've actually been pretty surprised at how excited people are about the event."

Will there be another 10 Big Ideas, similar to the ongoing Ignite Boise events?

"We'll see," Reuter said with a huge smile. "Let me put it this way: We're already getting pitches for another one."
