This morning's announcement from Boise State was to the point:

"Boise State Thanks Coach Pete, Looks Ahead"

Following an unprecedented run of success, Chris Petersen made it official today that he would be leaving the Boise State Broncos to become the new football coach for the University of Washington Huskies.

The U of W wasted no time in sending out its press release:

"Welcome to the Petersen Era."

Boise State's Director of Athletics Mark Coyle sent out a statement, wishing Petersen and his family "all the best in their future endeavors."

"We have started a national search for our next head football coach at Boise State and will work tirelessly to find the perfect fit to continue the ascension of Bronco football."

Petersen joined Boise State as the offensive coordinator in 2001 and was promoted to head coach for the 2006 season. He has guided the Broncos to two BCS bowl wins, and is a two-time winner of the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award.

"He is not only a great coach but a great person and an asset to the community. We were lucky to have him at Boise State and Washington is lucky to get him," said Boise State President Bob Kustra. "Our program has advanced steadily with an amazing amount of success through all those years, and we will be looking forward, not backward, making sure that we continue that success. Bronco Nation deserves no less."
