City officials in Ketchum say they're ready to unveil proposed plans for a new river park.

This morning's Idaho Mountain Express reports that plans for the proposed River Park at Sun Peak, which would be constructed north of Ketchum near Hulen Meadows will be presented Wednesday, Dec. 18.

The attraction would see a new whitewater park while restoring wildlife habitat and reducing flood risk to downstream properties. It would sit on land currently managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land management. The park would also include hiking trails and river and pond access, dog-play areas and nearly 1,500 feet of whitewater features along the Big Wood River.

The Mountain Express reports that private donors have thus far raised $125,000 toward the project which has a price tag of nearly $2.3 million. The park would be created in partnership with the Wood River Land Trust and local stakeholders.

Ketchum officials said construction could begin in 2014 or 2015, according to the Mountain Express.
