KTVB-7: Idaho Layaway Santas Pay Off Christmas Balances

Posted By on Mon, Dec 16, 2013 at 9:23 AM

When a number of Treasure Valley families go to their local retailer this week to make an installment payment on their Christmas layaways, they'll discover that their balance is only 1 cent.

They won't know who's responsible for the overwhelming generosity. The so-called "Layaway Santas" are anonymous. KTVB-7 reports that a man and woman saved money all year so that they could visit some local stores and pay off some layaway accounts. The man said he has never met any of the families whose accounts have been paid, and his ultimate motivation is to encourage the spirit of giving.

"All I'm hoping is people seeing the story will do something similar, whether come and pay off kids' layaway toys or Toys for Tots," the man told KTVB-7. "But get outside themselves and do something nice for somebody else for Christmas. ... They'll love how they feel."
