Idaho Doctor Disciplined by State Board of Medicine

A Magic Valley doctor has been disciplined by the Idaho State Board of Medicine.

This morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that the state board disciplined Dr. Margo Saunders for not disclosing a 2011 malpractice lawsuit last May when her medical license was up for renewal. The board said the failure to mention the suit in her renewal application violated Idaho Code 54-1814(2).

The lawsuit was settled out of court in July 2013 and was dismissed with prejudice. The Times-News reports that the case was the second malpractice suit brought against Saunders in District Court over the past five years. No monetary settlements were divulged in either case.

The Idaho State Board of Medicine decided on "standard disciplinary action" but opted not to pursue a formal hearing.

A spokesman for Minidoka Memorial Hospital told the Times-News that Saunders, who is an internist at the Rupert Hospital, "remains a physician in good standing" and determined that a "clerical error was made when the renewal application was filled out."
