Hailey Preparing For Waldorf-Curriculum Public Charter School

The Wood River Valley's Syringa Mountain School, which will adopt the Waldorf education curriculum when it reopens as a public charter school this fall, has scheduled a public meeting for next Thursday, Jan. 9, at the Ketchum YMCA. School officials say they're anxious to share details on the Waldorf methodology, which de-emphasizes technology in earlier grades.

"We're not anti-technology, but we do like to delay it until later years," Laurie Wetich, Syringa's board secretary told the Twin Falls Times-News.

School officials say they want to build a new school on Aspen Drive in west Hailey and have already scheduled a session with Hailey's Planning and Zoning Commission.

But for now, school officials say they'll be meeting with the public to talk about their plans to open the Waldorf school to 190 students in kindergarten through fifth grades this fall.
