IFF Creates Its Own Idaho 'Center for Defense of Liberty'

The self-described "government watchdog" group Idaho Freedom Foundation, which continues to have a visible influence at the Idaho Legislature by lobbying and even helping to craft legislation, announced Jan. 10 that it has created a so-called "Center for Defense of Liberty" — focusing "on litigation challenging statist and unconstitutional laws around the state." Boise attorney Geoff Talmon has been named the center's director.

"We hope to follow the lead of organizations like the Institute for Justice and the Goldwater Institute and use the power of the courts to protect the rights and liberties of the people," said Talmon. "This is precisely why I wanted to go to law school: to be able to help the little guy go against the odds and fight for liberty and justice for all."

The Idaho Freedom Foundation publishes an annual "Freedom Index" — ranking Idaho legislators on their "constitutional principles and individual liberties." IFF also has its own news organization:, which pays particular focus on the Idaho Statehouse.
