Second Idaho Postmaster In a Month Facing Criminal Charges

The U.S. Postmaster in the Oneida County community of Malad has been arrested on theft and drug charges—the second Idaho postmaster to face criminal charges in recent weeks.

This morning's Idaho State Journal reports that Bradley Hunter was arrested and booked into the nearby Bannock County Jail on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of prescription drugs and driving without privileges

Then, the following day, the Oneida County Sheriff's office lodged an additional charge of felony grand theft against Hunter. Prosecutors say evidence indicates that Hunter stole cash after reporting a false armed robbery had occurred at his post office.

Hunter is now being held at the Bannock county Jail on $100,000 bail.

Meanwhile, an Idaho City postmaster faces a preliminary hearing this coming Monday, Jan. 13, after being accused of stealing from her patrons.

Teresa Belau, who has served as postmaster for the small Boise County community since 1999, has been accused of grand theft after prosecutors say she stole a financial transaction card from someone's mail sometime in late July 2013.
