Snake River Canyon May Have Two Daredevil Jumpers In As Many Weeks

"Big Ed" Beckley may not be the only daredevil to fly over the Snake River Canyon later this year.

This morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that two Twin Falls men have secured a permit from Jerome County to launch a steam-powered rocket on Sept. 1 from a parcel of private land in Jerome County to a parcel of private land in Twin Falls County, near the Hansen Bridge.

The Times-News also reports that Scott Record and Scott Truax have nearly finished building their rocket and have chosen a jumper, Eddie Braun, a Hollywood stuntman.

Beckley has already paid the state of Idaho $1 million for the right to use state endowment land as a landing point for his own daredevil jump, tentatively scheduled for the second week of September, on the 40th anniversary of Evel Knievel's ill-fated attempt to jump the canyon. Beckley is still working with the city of Twin Falls to use that city's public land on the south side of the canyon as a launching point. Twin Falls officials have already indicated that Beckley is their "daredevil of choice" for the canyon jump.

Twin Falls city officials told the Times-News that they're "confused" about certain details regarding the competing jumps.
