Olympic Gold Medalist Will Run For Idaho Legislature

Posted By on Fri, Jan 24, 2014 at 10:28 AM

Olympic gold medalist Dick Fosbury—who revolutionized high-jumping competition with his so-called "Fosbury Flop"—has leapt into Idaho's political arena by announcing that he'll challenge Fairfield Republican Rep. Steve Miller for his Idaho House seat in District 26.

Fosbury, a Ketchum resident, won the Olympic gold during the 1968 Mexico City summer games.

Miller won his Idaho House seat in a very close 2012 election—winning by less than 1 percent of the vote—over Democratic candidate John Remington.

Fosbury, an engineer by trade, says he's particularly concerned about Idaho infrastructure.

“When you defer maintenance, your project becomes more expensive,” said Fosbury. “And that’s at the cost of the taxpayers."

Fosbury's official campaign announcement is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 27, in Bellevue.
