Nonini to be Challenged by North Idaho GOPer

The latest veteran Idaho legislator to be challenged from within his own party is District 3 Sen. Bob Nonini.

This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that Post Falls businessman Pat Walen cites what he calls a "fractured" Republican Party in his announcement that he'll challenge Nonini in the May GOP primary.

Whalen is president of the Coeur d'Alene-based Resource Computing software firm, current president of the Boys and Girls Club of Kootenai County, and four-time finisher in the Coeur d'Alene Ironman triathlon.

Nonini is a member of the Idaho Senate Agricultural Affairs, Education and Transportation committees and served as chair of the Idaho Republican Party from 2002 through 2004. He was elected to the Idaho House from 2004 through 2012 and was elected to the State Senate in 2012.
