Press: Substitute Idaho Legislator Didn't Live In the District He Represented

A little more than a week after Post Falls Republican Rep. Frank Henderson announced his pending retirement from the Idaho Legislature and endorsed John Chambers' campaign to take his seat, Chambers has had to back away from his budding political career.

It turns out that Chambers lives outside Henderson's district, Idaho Legislative District No. 3—but only by 180 feet.

"This was a true mistake. I truly thought I was in his district," Chambers told the Coeur d'Alene Press. "My apologies to everybody over this."

The more immediate problem is the fact that Chambers was a substitute legislator at the Idaho Statehouse earlier this year—for three weeks—sitting in for Henderson as the 91-year-old Idaho House Representative was recovering from a broken hip.

"He was one vote out of a dozen, with no objections," said Henderson. "No harm, no foul."

Chambers added that he had no plans to seek office.

"I certainly wasn't planning to do it for the money or for the title," said Chambers.
