Bogus Basin Road

As part of a multi-year plan to bring big improvements to Bogus Basin Road, the Ada County Highway District announced this morning that it will begin work on the recreational route this summer.

An estimated $6.5 million will be spent to improve Bogus Basin Road over the next several years, beginning with an overlay from Hill Road to Curling Drive this summer. ACHD crews will also be improving roadside drainage ditches, adding more drainage and curb, and removing and/or resetting concrete barriers.

Later this fall, ACHD crews will begin the same set of improvements from Curling Drive to Milepost 3.

Phase Two of the project will see the improvement of Bogus Basin Road between Milepost 3 and Milepost 9. The final phase will improve Bogus Basin Road from Milepost 9 to the Bogus Basin ski resort parking lot.

Bogus Basin Road was built in 1938 and was first used as a Forest Service Road. It's first improvement didn't come until 1961 to accommodate increased traffic to the ski area.

During peak season, nearly 5,000 vehicles travel on Bogus Basin Road each day.

But between 1997 and 2012, 505 accidents occurred on the road.
