More than 40 Add the Words protesters blocked off a wing of the garden level of the Idaho Statehouse this afternoon, preventing legislators from attending scheduled committee meetings, to commemorate the suicides of two Idaho LGBT youths. The protesters arrived at approximately 1 p.m., and 46 of them, including one minor, had been charged with trespassing, arrested and taken to Ada County Jail by 3:30 p.m.

This is the third Add the Words demonstration that has resulted in arrests at the Statehouse, bringing the total number of arrests made in connection with the movement to more than 120. At least four of the protesters have been charged three times for trespassing at the Capitol—a tactic that has drawn the ire of some lawmakers.

"These people are obstructing the legislators from doing what they were sent here to do," said Lava Hot Springs Republican Rep. Ken Andrus.

Republican leaders in the Legislature have said that adding the words "sexual orientation" and "gender identity"—the cornerstones of the Add the Words movement—will not be considered during this legislative session.
