Following two decades of on-again, off-again fundraising and planning, the City of Hailey is moving forward with plans to build an ice rink near the city's rodeo arena.

This morning's Idaho Mountain Express reports that the Hailey Planning and Zoning Commission approved designs April 14 that call for a 17,000-square-foot outdoor rink at Wetheimer Park. The plans also include landscaping to help protect some of the ice from the sun. Once constructed, the refrigerated rink is expected to be used from November through March. Planners said they also hope to someday construct a roof to cover the rink for all-season play.

The Mountain Express reports that construction could being this July, with an anticipated completion by November.
