Journal: Secret Meeting Triggers Suspension of Bannock Fair Board, Audit

Officials in Eastern Idaho say they're worried about how money is being handled, so they've suspended members of the Bannock County Fair Board and ordered an independent audit of the facility. Bannock County commissioners say they're also concerned whether everyone who uses the fairground facilities is being treated equally.

The Idaho State Journal reports that Bannock County Prosecutor Steve Herzog urged his county commissioners to order the audit after a county official said he found fairground discrepancies with Idaho statutes.

"There was some disorganization there, and we want to look into that deeper,”  Herzog told the Journal, adding that it is county money being spent, and they want to ensure that “everyone is being invoiced equally, everybody is paying the same fee schedule and everyone has equal access to our fair properties.”

The Journal reports that an emergency meeting of Bannock County commissioners, much of it behind closed doors, occurred Friday afternoon, triggering the suspension of the fair board and the audit order.

“We have been asked by the prosecuting attorney not to answer any questions pertaining to this issue that we just discussed in executive session,” said one of the county commissioners.
