Major Re-Do to Ketchum Highway Resumes Today

Someone once joked that there are two seasons: winter and construction season. From New York to Illinois to, yes, Idaho, commuters and vacationers have learned to live with orange barrels, roadside flaggers, and long, long waits.

So, it should come as no surprise to anyone visiting Sun Valley this summer that major highway work on Idaho Highway 75, which began a year ago, will resume today and stretch through this summer. And officials with the Idaho Transportation Department said the work may not even be finished this summer.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports that the 3.25-mile section of state Highway 75, just south of Ketchum, will be the scene of much disruption.

The project intends to expand the highway into two lanes in both directions, with additional new center turn lanes and turn bays to access business and residential areas.

And the Mountain Express reports that the current project is only the first of seven phases of expansion to the entire 37-mile stretch of Idaho 75 through the Wood River Valley. A second phase is set to begin in 2016 and the other five phases will "follow as funding becomes available," according to the ITD.
