Times-News: McCain Foods Idaho Expansion on Hold

Posted By on Tue, May 6, 2014 at 9:37 AM

In August 2013, McCain Foods, which built its first Magic Valley facility in the 1960s, announced that it would invest $100 million into its Burley potato production plant, increasing the plant's capacity by adding a third production line. The company supplies frozen potato and snack food products for the food-service markets; McCain also supplies retail grocery chains with both McCain and private-label potato products.

But this morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that the McCain expansion has been put on "pause."

Burley officials were quick to say that the project was definitely not canceled, but the expansion is stalled, according to the Times-News.

"It's not an uncommon thing for companies to re-analyze big projects like this," Doug Manning, Burley's head of economic development, told the Times-News, adding that he expected the expansion to commence in six months.

But McCain Foods did not return the Times-News's calls for comment.
