Let's Be Careful Out There: Vehicle Plunges Into Idaho Reservoir

Posted By on Sat, May 24, 2014 at 8:00 AM

Idaho's long holiday weekend got off to a soggy start Friday night for one driver and his passengers—and, no, it had nothing to do with a thundershower. Idaho State Police report that a vehicle was traveling west, near Idaho State Highway 21 in Boise County, when the car left the roadway and went into the reservoir.

One of the passengers in the vehicle, a juvenile, was airlifted from the scene to St. Luke's Medical Center in Boise, while the driver, a Washington state man, and another juvenile were transported to St. Luke's in a private passenger car. The crash is still under investigation.

ISP is out in force throughout the state until Monday evening, with a reminder that during Memorial Day weekend in 2013, there were 137 crashes on Idaho roads with 79 people injured and 2 fatalities.

In particular, ISP will be on the lookout for distracted drivers; during Memorial Day weekend 2013, distracted driving was the leading cause of crashes, with 33 reported incidences. Drowsiness was a factor in eight crashes.
