A Boise man faces up to five years in jail after pleading guilty Tuesday to the September 2013 hit-and-run accident that killed Boise cyclist Victor Haskell.

The lawyer for 32-year-old Gavin Haley had originally told an Ada County courtroom that his client thought he had hit a construction sign but prosecutors said that Haley had been drinking before the crash near 30th Avenue and State Street. The body of the 53-year-old Haskell was knocked into a small construction hole and he wasn't discovered until nearly eight hours after the crash.

Hailey pleaded guilty this morning to a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in jury or death.

His sentencing is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 12, nearly a full year after Haskell's death.
