Lieutenant Governor: Idaho GOP Has No Chairman

Posted By on Sat, Jun 28, 2014 at 11:01 AM

Idaho Lt. Gov. Brad Little says the way he sees it—and he's far from being alone with his opinion—his party doesn't have a chairman.

This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that Little, in an interview with the paper, says, "Rules say that the term is from one (GOP) convention to another and the convention is up. I don't think there's a chairman."

Little's comments are the latest wrinkle in the melodrama that currently defines the Idaho Republican Party, which has seen its executive director (Trevor Thorpe) and financial director (Mary Smith) walking out the door this past week. Wannabe-Chairman Barry Peterson insists that he's still in charge in spite of the fact that no vote took place during the hot mess that was the State GOP Convention earlier this month in Moscow.

"The date of the primary was late and the date of the convention was early, and frankly some of those feelings from that battle were still on the surface," Little told the Press.

Meanwhile, Peterson has hired Judy Gowen—former political director for Sen. Russ Fulcher's unsuccessful bid to unseat Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter—to take over as new executive director.
