Times-News: Dates for Daredevils' Dueling Jumps 'Up in the Air'

Initially, "Big" Ed Beckley, the Texas daredevil who says he'll jump Idaho's Snake River Canyon, had designs to throw a multi-day festival before his big leap. But now, this morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that Beckley has scuttled the festival plans because exactly when the jump will occur is still—pardon the pun—up in the air.

The original plan was for Fox Broadcasting to air Beckley's jump, and an additional jump over the Snake River Canyon by another daredevil team, but then Fox scuttled its plan to broadcast the jump in September on the 40th anniversary of Evel Knievel's ill-fated attempt to jump the Snake. To date, Fox hasn't indicated when it would like to broadcast the jump, but Beckley told the Times-News that "talk has surfaced of a late October launch."

"We are talking a matter of a few weeks (delay). I’m not sitting on a rocket for a year. That thing is ready to fire off here pretty quick,” Beckley told the Times-News.

Meanwhile, Beckley's competing daredevil, Hollywood stuntman Eddie Braun, has submitted a new safety plan to Twin Falls County, saying he wants to move his jump date, but the Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office says it won't let the two daredevils jump on the same day.

The Times-News reports that Twin Falls County has sent a letter to Beckley, giving him five days to submit a plan before his jump permit becomes void. But one thing's for sure: Beckley insists that he's canceling the festival and monster truck rally that he was planning to hold just prior to his jump.
