According to the incoming director of the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation David Langhorst (he replaces retiring director Nancy Merrill on Monday, August 4), Eagle Island State Park's beach will open again tomorrow, July 26, at 10 a.m.

The beach closed on July 14 after more than 100 people reported getting sick after swimming there over the weekend. Patient samples revealed the visitors caught norovirus, a stomach bug that brings on sudden vomiting and diarrhea and typically lasts one or two days. In an effort to rid the park of the illness, officials dropped the water level of the lake and refilled it this past week.

The reports came shortly after Eagle Island State Park's water was tested and found clear of E. coli—on July 9—but there is no standard water test for norovirus.
