Idaho Hospital Becomes Mayo Clinic Affiliate

In a first for Idaho, Kootenai Health—which includes a community-owned hospital in Coeur d'Alene and clinics serving Northern Idaho and Eastern Washington—announced Aug. 5 that it was affiliated with the prestigious Mayo Clinic.

"We're honored to be their clinical partner and collaborator going forward," said Kootenai Health CEO John Ness.

This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that not only is Kootenai Health the first Mayo affiliate in Idaho, but the first in the Pacific Northwest.

"Your local physician is still primary, but your local physician just picked up 4,000 colleagues," said Ness.

The partnership began with a 2013 phone call between Kootenai Health and Mayo officials, followed by a visit to Idaho from a Mayo team this past January.

Mayo has 30 national affiliates.
