New Lightning-Sparked Wildfires in the Payette National Forest

Posted By on Wed, Aug 13, 2014 at 9:13 AM

A Red Flag warning remains in effect across the Payette National Forest, as well as the northern portion of the Boise National Forest and much of Eastern Oregon.

Thunderstorms are expected to sweep through the region this afternoon and tonight, producing heavy winds, possible hail and, most importantly, considerable lightning, keeping firefighters on heightened alert.

Meanwhile, firefighters report nearly two dozen new lightning-triggered wildfires in the Payette National Forest.

The Saddle Fire, burning northeast of Council in the Council Ranger District, has already scorched a tenth of an acre.

The Bally Mountain blaze, seven miles north of New Meadows has also burnt a tenth of an acre.

And the Lawman Fire, 25 miles northeast of McCall, has also burnt a tenth of an acre.

Meanwhile the Krassel Ranger District is reporting a slew of new fires, including the Tailholt, Lemhi Bar, Burnt Knob and Flossie fires, all active.

Stage 1 fire restrictions remain in effect across the Payette National Forest, restricting campfires and smoking to designated sites.
