ACHD Nixes West Boise School Zone Where 13-Year-Old Bicyclist Died

The Ada County Highway District has eliminated a school zone where a 13-year-old bicyclist died, KIVI-TV reports

At the intersection of Jullion Way and Ustick Road, a ghost bike marks where Olivia Schnacker died in April. But the intersection will no longer be part of a school zone because the the Boise West Ada School District didn't want elementary-aged children crossing the five-lane street, and a crosswalk ACHD installed wasn't being used by students.

Henceforth, students who live south of Ustick Road will be bussed across the busy thoroughfare.

Melissa Christenson, a former crosswalk guard who was stationed there, told KIVI-TV that removing the school zone won't stop school kids from crossing the street.

"There's no cross-guard, and there's still kids crossing on their own," she said.
