Idaho Waldorf-Inspired Public Charter Ready to Swing Open Its Doors

In January, Boise Weekly chronicled the stops and starts of a new publicly funded charter school—inspired by the Waldorf teaching philosophy—planned for Hailey. But school officials ran into a buzzsaw of opposition from a Hailey neighborhood, forcing the school to find a Plan B for its location.

And now, the school is set to open its doors Tuesday, Sept. 2, with a near capacity group of 165 students attending kindergarten through fifth grades.

According to this morning's Idaho Mountain Express, the school describes Waldorf as an "academically rigorous liberal arts curriculum presented in a developmentally and arts-integrated context. The method emphasizes educating the whole child—head, heart and hands—through sustainable living, gardening, farming, experiential learning and minimal use of technology in the early grades."

The school's new location is a former warehouse on Glenbrook Drive in south Hailey.
