Nampa Citizens Plan Food Co-Op of Their Own

Posted By on Thu, Sep 18, 2014 at 2:59 PM

Nampa is working toward starting up its own food cooperative.

The Canyon County Co-Op's allies have begun a working group, in conjunction with the Nampa Downtown Association Economic Restructuring committee, to explore the possibility of establishing a downtown Nampa market modeled on co-ops across the country.

According to the CCCO's website, it had initially lobbied for the Boise Co-Op to launch a satellite location in Nampa. (Instead, Boise Co-Op announced July 28 it would open a second location in Meridian.)

CCCO is still raising funds and engaging the community by throwing a series of public meetings with guest speakers and film screenings at the Flying M Coffee Garage beginning at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 23. That's when interested parties will discuss the topic of what co-ops are and what they do.

Sept. 30, they will discuss governance and outreach; Oct. 7, they'll discuss fundraising and volunteering; and Oct. 14, the public is invited to discuss actually opening a co-op in Nampa.
