Ford Recalls 850,000 Vehicles

Ford announced Friday morning that it was recalling nearly 850,000 cars and SUV's because of an air bag problem.

The recalled models include the 2013 and 2014 Ford C-Max compact, Fusion midsize, Escape SUV and the Lincoln MKZ, all sold in North America. Ford officials said the cars might have an electrical short circuit that could, in the event of a crash, disable side impact airbags and the forward restraint system.

The company said it was not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the safety issue, and that dealers will replace the affected parts at no cost to vehicle owners.

This is the second major U.S. automobile recall this week. Chrysler also announced the recall of 350,000 vehicles with possible ignition switch issues.

Nearly 46,000,000 vehicles have been recalled due to problems this year. That's a new record and far above the previous high of 30,800,000 vehicles recalled in 2004.
