Magic Valley Pharmacists Alerted; Idaho Sees Increase of Med-Targeting Robberies

Posted By on Tue, Sep 30, 2014 at 9:17 AM

This morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that Magic Valley pharmacies were on the alert overnight, with police standing guard at some locations, in the shadow of a dangerous trend. Two pharmacies were robbed Monday night—a Walgreens and a Kmart pharmacy—both in Twin Falls. In both instances, a man demanded specific medications and fled on foot.

The holdups are the last in a string of robberies. As many as five area pharmacies have been robbed since March 10, according to the Times-News. At a recent meeting of the Idaho Board of Pharmacy, law enforcement alerted Gem State pharmacists to the trend.

"The subject is on our minds," Davis Nelson told the Times-News. Nelson is a pharmacist at Sav-Mor in Twin Falls, which had extra security Monday night. "Every night when I close, I think about it."
