Idaho Polygamist Sentenced For Child Abuse

An Idaho man has been sentenced to 90 days behind bars in connection with his role of holding children against their will at a Pocatello home. According to law enforcement, the boys were sent to live in the home by their parents for "repentance."

Law enforcement accused Nathan Jessop of depriving the boys of food, hitting them with boards and brooms, and sending them out into the cold without jackets. According to a Bannock County Sheriff's Department report, one of the boys was kept in a furnace room for two days.

Jessop said the boys came from families who were members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He told authorities that the boys were sent to him by their parents "because they had been disobedient."

Law enforcement moved in when one of the boys escaped from the house and began telling authorities of the punishment that he and the other children had suffered.

KPVI-TV reports that the 49-year-old Jessop was sentenced in a Pocatello courtroom Tuesday after pleading guilty to three counts of misdemeanor injury to a child.
