Meridian Police are investigating a Wednesday morning shooting incident which resulted in a 2-year-old child being rushed to a local hospital.

Police were summoned to a home on the 2600 block of South Pine Bar Place in Meridian shortly after 10;30 a.m. on Oct. 22. That's where they discovered that a 4-year-old had somehow obtained access to a flare gun and shot his 2-year-old brother in the head.

The victim was rushed to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. The child was reported to be in serious condition.

Investigators said they believed that the boys found the flare gun in a boat which was stored in the backyard of the home. Police also confirmed that an adult relative was in the home at the time of the shooting.
