Boise arson investigators say they're trying to determine if a man taken into custody late Thursday night is responsible for a string of fires.

A swam of police descended on Gary Lane near Hill Road around 10 p.m. That's where they found and arrested 34-year-old Patrick Irving of Boise and charged him with felony arson. Witnesses said that Irving had been confronted by a homeowner shortly before police arrived on the scene. The Ada County Sheriff's Office said that Irving was near the homeowner's house Thursday night and "acting suspicious."

A series of two fires and one attempted fire all occurred in the 6700 block of West Hill Road - Tuesday, October 21, a second incident on Wednesday, October 22nd and the third on Thursday evening, which prompted the homeowner to confront Irving.

The worst of the fires was Tuesday when the blaze gutted a single-family house.

Irving was booked into the Ada County Jail where he is awaiting a court appearance.

A check of court records indicates that Irving has had multiple run-ins with the law, beginning as a juvenile. Over the years, he has faced convictions for drug trafficking and multiple traffic violations. And as recently as this fall, Irving was charged with traffic violations (September 17), disorderly conduct (September 21) and possession of drug paraphernalia (October 4).
