North Idaho Standoff Ends With Suspect Passing Out

Posted By on Mon, Oct 27, 2014 at 9:22 AM

Things were pretty tense at the scene of a police standoff in North Idaho Sunday night ... that is, until the suspect passed out (police say he was heavily intoxicated).

KHQ-TV reports that Post Falls Police responded to a 911 call of aggravated battery near the intersection of 15th and Compton streets around 5 p.m. Pacific Time Sunday evening. Witnesses said two males were involved in an altercation and one of the men suffered a knife cut in the incident.

Law enforcement evacuated nearby apartment complexes during the three-hour standoff and urged the suspect to come out with his hands in the air. But those hands, and the rest of his body, hit the floor when the suspect passed out in the house. It turns out that police had already left the scene by then. A police spokesman told KHQ-TV that they were planning on returning to the scene this morning with a warrant to arrest the suspect.

"Right now it's just not worth pushing the issue and risking the lives of one of the deputies here," Post Falls Police Department Capt. Pat Knight told KHQ-TV.
