A male suspect is in custody of Boise law enforcement and he's expected to be charged with the Oct. 28 violent beating of a transient man. The victim's body was discovered Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. beneath the I-84 Connector overpass bridge on Americana Boulevard. The location has been a regular haven for Boise's homeless community.

"Just because they're homeless doesn't mean they don't have a life," Karen Marshall told Boise Weekly near the crime scene. "It's not right. Just because he didn't have a four-bedroom house, nobody cares why we end up here."

According to witnesses the suspect allegedly had a violent fight with a woman in the evening hours of Oct. 27 at the same location. Witnesses say after the woman was sent to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries, the suspect returned to Americana where he had a violent altercation with the victim, resulting in the homicide.

The victim was tentatively identified by witnesses as "Rusty."

"Rusty was my friend," said Brent Bunting. "People who drive by... they don't know what we put up with everyday."

Witnesses said they were well aware of the suspect who was taken into police custody Tuesday morning, calling him a "loose cannon."
