Dispute Over Nominee to Sun Valley City Council

Posted By on Fri, Oct 31, 2014 at 9:21 AM

Saying that it would "inappropriate" for a Sun Valley Planning and Zoning commissioner to come on board the Sun Valley City Council as its members consider a new comprehensive plan, two of that city's council members have pushed back the consideration of the appointment of Jake Provonsha, at least for now.

This morning's Idaho Mountain Express reports that Provonsha has been nominated to the council by Sun Valley Mayor Dewayne Briscoe. But council members Michelle Griffith and Peter Hendricks are questioning that selection since Provonsha's current status as a P&Z commissioner could make the city "vulnerable." Consideration of Provonsha has already been shot down once at an Oct. 2 council meeting and if indeed he's denied again, state law dictates that another candidate be nominated.

Council members need to fill the vacant seat left by former Councilman Franz Suhadolnik, who tendered his resignation in September with more than a year left in his term. Currently, the council has only three elected members.
